New Zealand

I 'm super excited for May. I applied to Global Volunteer Network (GVN) and I got accepted just today! I will be in New Zealand on the 15th of May to help in the Heal the Earth program that GVN has established there!

The program works to improve the condition of the environment and educate the community to keep the improvements in place. We also will be working with wildlife that are place on the endangered species list in hopes to better the chances that they will be removed from the list in the good way.

I will be going there for a total of two months. I might even end up staying longer depending on the conditions there. I am so excited to go and help out through service projects. My friend Natalie actually recommended me to this organization. She went last year to Africa and will be going again this summer. My other friend Kathy actually went to New Zealand and told me how much she loved it there. Here are a few images of where I will be located. The pictures are from the GVN website.

Chile

Chile is a country of amazing contrasts and tremendous beauty, with attractions ranging from the soaring volcanic peaks of the Andes to the ancient forests of the Lake District. There are a multitude of excellent parks in Chile. Chile is justly famous as the location of Torres del Paine, considered by many to be the finest nature travel destinations in all of South America.

The relatively small central area dominates the country in terms of population and agricultural resources. This area also is the cultural and political center from which Chile expanded in the late 19th century, when it incorporated its northern and southern regions. The southern coast is a labyrinth of fjords, inlets, canals, twisting peninsulas, and islands. The Andes Mountains are located on the eastern border.

Peru

I've been here once, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat! I love everything about Peru! I went there two summers ago for a humanitarian internship. I went for Southern Cross Humanitarian and I lived in The Sunflower Orphanage. This was located in the Sacred Valley in Cusco.

Switzerland

One day when I am all grown up I will live here! It is such a beautiful culture with amazing landmarks! Not only because of these reasons would I want to live here. I do really like the social system the government has set up there. I am a big believer in government funding for social programs. Also the fact that they have a system that allows everyone equal medical care coverage.

Again this was one of those countries my mom has visited and so I will aspire to one day visit as well. She has told me that they have wonderful food there, and the very best chocolate. The one thing that she remembers most about her trip there was how clean the streets were kept. I think that is awesome! I would love to go and check that out for myself!

England

I'm a fan of travel that doesn't require large amounts of knowledge with a foreign language! Now I know that sometimes accents are hard to understand, however, the people are speaking English! My native tongue! Ever since I was about four years old I have always wanted to visit England. After seeing the film Hook, starring Robin Williams, I became a fan of the city of London. At the end of the film as the credits are rolling it shows a old man doing cartwheels in the sky around Big Ben. Big Ben is that large clock tower right in the city! While I was younger I believed that one day I could grow up and do that. I know now that humans can't fly. I still have always wanted to visit England.
My younger sister was able to go there at the beginning of this year. I was extremely jealous of her getting to tour London before me. So I am planning a trip there soon, so she wont one up me! Sort of a sibling thing.

Alaska

I know this one is a little out of the ordinary as far as the places I have posted previously. The truth is, I wanted to live in Alaska, but I'll settle for a vacation there!

My mom spent a year there while she was a teen. Alaska is the 49th state, and a gorgeous addiction to the U.S.A. It wasn't until I saw the film Into The Wild that I fell in love with it. The connection between human being and nature was beautifully illustrated thought the film. I felt the urge to find my way there with just the clothes on my back just like in the movie. It's extreme, but the landscapes and wild life are worth the adventure to me.

Italy

I couldn't visit Italy without going to Rome, Milan, Venice and Florence.

Olive oil, pasta, mafia, roman ruins and renaissance palaces. Roman Catholic roots, beautiful scenic landscapes. Everything Italian! Contemporary Italian artists, writers, filmmakers, architects, composers, and designers contribute significantly to Western culture. Famous names of rulers, legends and Gods of the Roman Empire, such as Napoleon, Mussolini, Romulus and Remus. I enjoy art history and Italy happens to have some of the most influential artists from the many civilizations that have inhabited it. Michelangelo, Lorenzo di Pietro, Pietro Bernini, Giovanni, and Cristoforo Solari are a few of the talented artists that the world has seen.

The Top Ten Areas That I Would Travel In Africa I've place hyperlinks to each place listed that shows an image that represents it.

  1. Rwanda
  2. Egypt
  3. Uganda
  4. Kenya
  5. South Africa
  6. Botswana
  7. Chad
  8. Ethiopia
  9. Zimbabwe

I would like to go to these places because of the beautiful landscapes, and all the interesting cultures. Much of my travels to Africa would include Humanitarian work. I would love to do social work in any of these places. I would even like to go with a group such as the Peace Corps, or Choice Humanitarian. Africa captivates me and I would love to experience it first hand some day!

Japan

Reasons to visit Japan
  1. Spencer Turner my boyfriend of two years lives in Fukuoka, Japan.
  2. Hakone, cool mountain air, and views of Japan's famous peak, Mount Fuji.
  3. Climate is that of most Islands. Warm weather, with rain most of the seasons.
  4. Japan reflects a balance between economic development and environmental protection.
  5. The culture is rich and diverse from American civilizations. They have beautiful temples, landscapes, people, and architecture and art galleries.
I currently am learning Japanese so I can go there one day. Spencer says that he will take me there and show me all the amazing places that he has been too. He has lived there for about four months now and will be there for about one more year. Our plans so far are to one day live in Japan and gain dual citizenship. Not set in stone yet, hopefully our plans work out!

FA 3600-Sec. 002 Blog

I have chosen to blog on the topic of places I want to travel, both internationally and nationally in my lifetime. I choose travel because it is something that inspires me, I find myself daydreaming of places I've never been before all the time! I’m already excited to write about all the different places I want to go and why I pick one over the other.

I would also like to hear feedback from anyone who has been to a certain place or has any suggestions about where they would go if they could!
