Post on Garrett Allen's blog

So this is probably my last post, I am not big on blogging. Anyway this is what I left on Garrett Allen's blog. I agree with John on this. Your blog was intense and very true. I think that you have good points about life and how important people are. You should keep up the blogging. This is good stuff. Thanks!

Thanks Garrett!

Comment Eugenia Hernandez

I think that is all worked out. I commented on Eugenia's blog and now I am just waiting for her to accept the comment. Anyway this is just what I posted under one of her posts.
I was so excited while watching the election that night. I can't even tell you how moved I was when it was announced that Obama is the president elect to the United States of America. I got tears in my eyes and like many others let the power of the word "change" just sink in.
I felt that his speech was honest and bold. What a wonderful thing to have such a historic thing happen in my lifetime. This was my first time voting-it made me feel special knowing that the person I voted for won! I am so excited to see if he does well for America, we need him to be that president for our nation. Thank you to all those that vote and good luck Obama! I am rooting for you!

Thanks Eugenia.

Las Vegas

The major attractions in Las Vegas are the casinos. The most famous hotels are located on Las Vegas Boulevard, better known as the Las Vegas Strip. Many of these hotels carry thousands of rooms. There are, of course, large casino areas in these hotels as well. There are many hotel casinos in the city's downtown area as well, which was the original focal point of the city's gaming industry in its early days. Several large hotels and casinos are also located somewhat off the Strip but adjacent to it, as well as in the county around the city.
Just a few other interesting facts about Las Vegas-Gambling was legalized in the city on March 19, 1931.
On December 26, 1946, Bugsy Siegel opened the infamous Flamingo Hotel in Paradise on what would later become the Las Vegas Strip.
The Hoover Dam was completed on October 9, 1936 outside of Boulder City and above ground nuclear testing was conducted at the Nevada Test Site in Nye County from 1951 to 1962. This informations was taken from WIkipedia.

So something random about me, my boyfriend is back from Japan. We have been dating for almost 3 years now and recently have been talking about marriage. First of all this is so awkward I feel like a kid still. The other thought I had run through my head was running off to Vegas! There is my bit about that. I'm not interested in the big wedding, and that is only saying if we do. Who knows?

Antarctica

So I don't know very much about Antarctica and I would like to know more. The most I know is that it is really cold, not many people live there and it's the Continent located on the bottom of the Earth. I googled it to see what I could find and this is what came up.
"Antarctica is the coldest place on Earth. At the 3-kilometer (2 mi)-high Vostok Station in Antarctica, scientists recorded Earth's lowest temperature: −89 °C (−129 °F).[27] For comparison, this is 11 °C colder than subliming dry ice." This is found at this link.
Also according to the link above it says, "Antarctica has no permanent residents, but a number of governments maintain permanent research stations throughout the continent. The number of people conducting and supporting scientific research and other work on the continent and its nearby islands varies from about 1,000 in winter to about 5000 in the summer. Many of the stations are staffed year-round."
I just think that it would be a very pretty trip to see the wildlife that is almost untouched by humans. That is the main reason I want to visit there.

Project 3 website

I seem to be having troubles publishing my site, I have been trying for quite some time tonight. http://fileserver.art.utah.edu/~lyoung/project3/ doesn't seem to be working but I have dropped the domain in your dropbox. I will hopefully email you tomorrow before 8am to see if it was just that my internet hasn't been working right.

Hawaii

If I were to be completely honest about Hawaii I really only want to go for the warm weather. I have been to Hawaii a few times in my life with my family. The very first time we vacationed there I basically got a 3rd degree sunburn the first day and wasn't able to go outside the rest of the trip. I hate getting sunburned, and I get so sick, it's like my insides are cooked. I would be nice if I didn't sunburn so easily, I was wearing 50SPF sunblock.
Also another time that my family vacationed to Hawaii, which I would like to do again if I go is, traveling up to the top of a volcano. I cannot remember what it's called but I do have a picture of that time we did. I will include it in this blog.
I love beaches and bonfires at night time. Listening to music while laying out in the sun. Especially site seeing to places that are different from our lovely state of Utah.

Home

No holding back. This week has been something else for me. I am so done with just about everything that all I want to do lately is stay at home in my room under my covers inside my bed! I don's want to be anywhere else but in bed. I keep getting the worst news...which I know is like life but I am so sick of it.
I was planning on being accepted in to the bachelors of social work program here at the University of Utah this week. However, I did not get in. That is alright I will just apply for the fall of next year. It would have been really nice if I didn't have to reapply though.
All of that and the fact that I am sick. I do not feel good and traveling even right outside my bedroom door doesn't sound fun! I am pretty much done with the semester and my job. There is so much to do and so little time to get everything done.
Well now I am done venting about all of this, I have to get back to doing other homework.

Turkey

Known officially as the Republic of Turkey. Today, the country’s archaeological and cultural wonders, and its long Mediterranean coastline, are a Mecca for tourists, attracting millions of European holidaymakers each year. Among the top draws is Istanbul with its fabulous setting, wealth of historic sights and vibrant cultural life. Also not to be missed are the amazingly well-preserved remains of Greco-Roman cities such as Ephesus or Pergamon, and the coastal resorts with their sandy beaches and hedonistic nightlife.
Turkey borders the Black Sea and Georgia and Armenia to the northeast, Iran to the east, Iraq to the southeast, the Syrian Arab Republic and the Mediterranean to the south, the Aegean Sea to the west and Greece and Bulgaria to the northwest. Asia Minor (or Anatolia) accounts for 97% of the country’s area and forms a long, wide peninsula 1,650km (1,025 miles) from east to west and 650km (400 miles) from north to south. Two east-west mountain ranges, the Black Sea Mountains in the north and the Taurus in the south, enclose the central Anatolian plateau, but converge in a vast mountainous region in the far east of the country. It is here that the ancient Tigris and Euphrates rivers rise.
The place the I would want to visit the most is...
Istanbul. The only city in the world to span two continents, Istanbul is a bustling, cosmopolitan place, officially founded by Emperor Constantine in AD 326 on the back of a much older village.I want to visit Istanbul because it is a city that is mentioned in so many cartoons that I watched when I was younger.

North Carolina

Back to the States!

The state borders South Carolina and Georgia to the south, Tennessee to the west and Virginia to the north.North Carolina was one of the original Thirteen Colonies, originally known as Carolina. North Carolina was one of the original Thirteen Colonies, originally known as Carolina.

North Carolinians enjoy outdoor recreation utilizing numerous local bike paths, 34 state parks, and 14 national parks which are the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Cape Lookout National Seashore, Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site at Flat Rock, Croatan National Forest in Eastern North Carolina, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site at Manteo, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Guilford Courthouse National Military Park in Greensboro, Moores Creek National Battlefield near Currie, the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail, Old Salem National Historic Site in Winston-Salem, the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail, Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, Uwharrie National Forest.

Along with Utah and the fall season (that seems to be skipped over), for people coming from cooler climates, the heat and humidity of southern summers can be a shock, making spring and fall much more attractive. During the Fall season, the Blue Ridge Mountains are a popular destination due to the beauty of the foliage.

Estonia

I know a kid, that I went to high school with, who currently lives in Estonia. I never knew that it existed. I had heard it form a movie once but I thought it was a big joke. That is a really old movie anyway I must have been about ten years old when it came out.

Anyway, about my friend that is over there. His name is Matthew. The very first day he flew into Estonia the country suffered a horrible earthquake. I thought it was nice of karma to work out that way because I really didn't like that kid very much.

Greenland

Well one time I flew over Greenland and thought to myself 'why is Greenland all ice?' it just seemed weird that it wasn't named Iceland. I took a few pictures it look pretty cool. Just a bunch of fingers stretching out into the Atlantic Ocean. It was really interesting looking. I wonder what I did with those photos. I will have to look on my other computer to see if I can find them and post some up here. I would really like to learn more about Iceland because I don't know much about it.

Columbia

Colombia is the third-most populous country in Latin America, after Brazil and Mexico. The ethnic diversity in Colombia is a result of the intermingling of indigenous Indians, Spanish colonists, and African slaves. In Columbia they have vibrant cities, elegant port towns cut by cobbled alleys and bougainvillea-shrouded balconies, spectacular national parks from tropical to heavenly-high-alpine, cruise boats, party buses, late-night salsa dancing and glorious shopping. Sounds like a very fun trip to me!

Natural attractions include rippling mountains, expanses of the Amazon Basin, large lakes, vast plains and a Caribbean coastline that twinkles with azure water. Meanwhile man-made wonders include lost cities, fabulous pre-Columbian sculpture and colourful colonial houses adorn the towns.

I mentioned before how I went to Peru last summer. I traveled with The Southern Cross Humanitarian. The organization just so happened to expand to Columbia. I think it would be so awesome if I went again through Southern Cross to Colombia!

Canada

Canadian eh?

Canada is divided into provinces and territories. I would like to visit British Columbia because it is beautiful and culturally diverse province. Located on Canada's West Coast, between the Pacific Ocean and the Rocky Mountains. I hope to enjoy spectacular scenery.

With spectacular natural beauty, a healthy environment, cultural diversity, lively communities and a strong economy, British Columbia has something to offer just about everyone who would like to travel there. I hope to understand the Canadian lifestyle, people, province, and history when I travel there. I have a handful of friends that are from Canada. They are diverse but interesting people and I love to hear about all the fun places to visit if I travel there.

My boyfriend came home this week and so we are planing to take a trip there this spring when it warms up a bit. It should be interesting and fun to go backpacking there and enjoy the culture that Canada has to offer.

Where to next?

Well today I got a letter in the mail from Delta Skymiles. It says that I have a balance of 17,374 expiring mileage. I must use the miles or they will go to waste. The only problem is...where should I go? Well and one more small problem, where can I go on 17,374 miles? I was thinking that I might take a nice beach trip to Hawaii. Or maybe a city trip to D.C. I just don't know.

India

The mountain tip to its steamy south, India has enough sights and experiences to fill several of my lifetimes. India has an extremely vibrant history and frantic cities. Icons like the Taj Mahal, deep-breath beaches and a vivid layering of cultures are just the start.

India is one of the most intricate and rewarding dramas unfolding on earth, and I've developed an abiding passion for it, and the countries diversity. Nothing is ever quite predictable; the only thing to expect is the unexpected, which comes in many forms and will always want to sit next to you.

The only thing that I found wrong with visiting India is the monsoon season (May to October is the optimum period). Around October the monsoon ends for most of the country. It's too late to visit Ladakh During October and November it's generally not too hot and not too cool (although October can still be hot and/or humid in some regions). In the thick of winter (around mid-December to mid-January), Delhi and other northern cities can become freezing cold, especially at night (like Utah in the winter).

New York

New York is home to some of the most famous dance companies in the world and with national and international companies making regular stops here on their tours, I expect to enjoy a wide variety of dance classes and performances if I make a trip here. Not only will I want to have the classes I want to visit as many Broadway plays as I possibly can! Top five Broadway shows that I want to see:
  1. Wicked

  2. The Lion King

  3. Chicago

  4. The Phantom of the Opera

  5. A Tale of Two Cities

You can visit this link to see other plays on Broadway.

Mexico

VIVA LA MEXICO!
Hola! Hablo Espanol!

Oh the joy that a quick trip across the boarder is! I love Mexico! Especially along the coast where you can chill out on the beach and get crazy braids in your hair and cheap sunglasses! Mexico has to be one of my favorite places to vacation. My parents have time share down there so occasionally we take a trip there.

The last time I was there was probably two years ago and it was only for a few days. I haven't been able to get there since because of school or conflicting time share schedules.
One of my favorite things to do while I am in Mexico is shop. I am a big time barterer. I use to feel really bad about it, but then I realized that I'm not rich personally. Plus I tend to forget things everywhere I go. One time I bought a really awesome necklace and then close to two hours later I had completely forgotten where I put the dang thing! True story, I always loose things.

I also love going down there and playing soccer. I suck at soccer compared to the little kids but it is still very fun to bring a few soccer balls to play with. I always let them keep the balls too because they always win them off me!

New Zealand

I 'm super excited for May. I applied to Global Volunteer Network (GVN) and I got accepted just today! I will be in New Zealand on the 15th of May to help in the Heal the Earth program that GVN has established there!

The program works to improve the condition of the environment and educate the community to keep the improvements in place. We also will be working with wildlife that are place on the endangered species list in hopes to better the chances that they will be removed from the list in the good way.

I will be going there for a total of two months. I might even end up staying longer depending on the conditions there. I am so excited to go and help out through service projects. My friend Natalie actually recommended me to this organization. She went last year to Africa and will be going again this summer. My other friend Kathy actually went to New Zealand and told me how much she loved it there. Here are a few images of where I will be located. The pictures are from the GVN website.

Chile

Chile is a country of amazing contrasts and tremendous beauty, with attractions ranging from the soaring volcanic peaks of the Andes to the ancient forests of the Lake District. There are a multitude of excellent parks in Chile. Chile is justly famous as the location of Torres del Paine, considered by many to be the finest nature travel destinations in all of South America.

The relatively small central area dominates the country in terms of population and agricultural resources. This area also is the cultural and political center from which Chile expanded in the late 19th century, when it incorporated its northern and southern regions. The southern coast is a labyrinth of fjords, inlets, canals, twisting peninsulas, and islands. The Andes Mountains are located on the eastern border.

Peru

I've been here once, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat! I love everything about Peru! I went there two summers ago for a humanitarian internship. I went for Southern Cross Humanitarian and I lived in The Sunflower Orphanage. This was located in the Sacred Valley in Cusco.

Switzerland

One day when I am all grown up I will live here! It is such a beautiful culture with amazing landmarks! Not only because of these reasons would I want to live here. I do really like the social system the government has set up there. I am a big believer in government funding for social programs. Also the fact that they have a system that allows everyone equal medical care coverage.

Again this was one of those countries my mom has visited and so I will aspire to one day visit as well. She has told me that they have wonderful food there, and the very best chocolate. The one thing that she remembers most about her trip there was how clean the streets were kept. I think that is awesome! I would love to go and check that out for myself!

England

I'm a fan of travel that doesn't require large amounts of knowledge with a foreign language! Now I know that sometimes accents are hard to understand, however, the people are speaking English! My native tongue! Ever since I was about four years old I have always wanted to visit England. After seeing the film Hook, starring Robin Williams, I became a fan of the city of London. At the end of the film as the credits are rolling it shows a old man doing cartwheels in the sky around Big Ben. Big Ben is that large clock tower right in the city! While I was younger I believed that one day I could grow up and do that. I know now that humans can't fly. I still have always wanted to visit England.
My younger sister was able to go there at the beginning of this year. I was extremely jealous of her getting to tour London before me. So I am planning a trip there soon, so she wont one up me! Sort of a sibling thing.

Alaska

I know this one is a little out of the ordinary as far as the places I have posted previously. The truth is, I wanted to live in Alaska, but I'll settle for a vacation there!

My mom spent a year there while she was a teen. Alaska is the 49th state, and a gorgeous addiction to the U.S.A. It wasn't until I saw the film Into The Wild that I fell in love with it. The connection between human being and nature was beautifully illustrated thought the film. I felt the urge to find my way there with just the clothes on my back just like in the movie. It's extreme, but the landscapes and wild life are worth the adventure to me.

Italy

I couldn't visit Italy without going to Rome, Milan, Venice and Florence.

Olive oil, pasta, mafia, roman ruins and renaissance palaces. Roman Catholic roots, beautiful scenic landscapes. Everything Italian! Contemporary Italian artists, writers, filmmakers, architects, composers, and designers contribute significantly to Western culture. Famous names of rulers, legends and Gods of the Roman Empire, such as Napoleon, Mussolini, Romulus and Remus. I enjoy art history and Italy happens to have some of the most influential artists from the many civilizations that have inhabited it. Michelangelo, Lorenzo di Pietro, Pietro Bernini, Giovanni, and Cristoforo Solari are a few of the talented artists that the world has seen.

I would love to do social work in any of these places. I would even like to go with a group such as the Peace Corps, or Choice Humanitarian. Africa captivates me and I would love to experience it first hand some day!

Japan

Reasons to visit Japan
  1. Spencer Turner my boyfriend of two years lives in Fukuoka, Japan.
  2. Hakone, cool mountain air, and views of Japan's famous peak, Mount Fuji.
  3. Climate is that of most Islands. Warm weather, with rain most of the seasons.
  4. Japan reflects a balance between economic development and environmental protection.
  5. The culture is rich and diverse from American civilizations. They have beautiful temples, landscapes, people, and architecture and art galleries.
I currently am learning Japanese so I can go there one day. Spencer says that he will take me there and show me all the amazing places that he has been too. He has lived there for about four months now and will be there for about one more year. Our plans so far are to one day live in Japan and gain dual citizenship. Not set in stone yet, hopefully our plans work out!

FA 3600-Sec. 002 Blog

I have chosen to blog on the topic of places I want to travel, both internationally and nationally in my lifetime. I choose travel because it is something that inspires me, I find myself daydreaming of places I've never been before all the time! I’m already excited to write about all the different places I want to go and why I pick one over the other.

I would also like to hear feedback from anyone who has been to a certain place or has any suggestions about where they would go if they could!

FA 3600-Sec. 002 Blog

This website was very fascinating, and awesome for creating a headache!

I found that the more links and pictures I clicked on the farther I got from the original page itself, or anywhere I wanted to be generally. I think that the point of it is to discover what is out there on the web and this site is definitely out there!

Many of the links on the main page have no particular meaning and take you to places that are incredibly authentic. For example I got into a questionnaire deal and as you read further down the page it had asked questions such as what was the biggest lie that you were told as a child. I am not sure who, or how the people were asked but some of the answers were pretty entertaining. The mention of Santa Clause was a big one to many people. For the most part it seemed that the responses were not directed toward any particular outcome.

Another part of this website that I got lost in was some crazy maze that had a series of random photos of a woman in a strange background. Random clicking in certain places, I found, might go to a new picture or it might take you back to a prior image. This was very frustrating because I am very pattern oriented and I couldn’t figure out the pattern that this had to it so I gave up and went to the main page to start all over.

This led me to my third discovery which was not as fun as I had expected it to be. I clicked on this love game thing, and it took me to a place that has a bunch of different pictures of 'love' which became very awkward at times. Some images made sense, while others I felt did not define love. Careful what number you click on this page, some pictures are adult content. Check it out for yourself and see what you think of it!
